Ah, spring. It’s a time of getting outside after a long winter. It’s a time of renewal with the planting of flowers, trees and shrubs. It’s an awakening. It’s also time to think about sprucing up around the house.
We all remember to change the batteries in the smoke detectors with daylight savings time, but when was the last time you changed the filters to the heating system? So you want to plant new flowers, have you checked your gardening tools to see if they need repair or lubrication to get the parts loosened up? There are things that we automatically think about with the change of the season, but there are also things that need attention that we do not readily think about.
Check the roof to see if there is any damage from the winter storms and check the roof vents and fans to make sure the seals were not damaged as well. While you are up there, how about those gutters and downspout. They sometimes collect more than water and you will want make sure they are clear for the water to flow freely. Remember, April showers bring May flowers.
Now it’s time to tackle the yard. Cleaning up the yard from
the straggling leaves that you didn’t get this past fall, limbs and branches that came down during the winter and other over grown vegetation that may still be dormant is a great way to start the planting season. With the yard cleared, you can see where you need to fill in from a dead shrub or adding new flowers to the beds.
